In 1997, Sharon and Rodger Mattern opened American Harvest at 438 Main Street in downtown Pleasanton California. They began this online storefront in 2003.
"I love what I do," Sharon says. "What I like best are my relationships with my customers and being a part of their lives. I also like to support small artists that make specialty items, and my customers like getting to know these artists too." Sharon also enjoys being a few steps ahead of design trends, "We always feel like we're a few years ahead of the mainstream. I like introducing my customers to new ideas."
When asked why decoration and design are important, Sharon replies, "The home is an oasis, especially here in the bay area where people are so busy. My customers are nesters, and they want to make their homes comfortable and welcoming."
Sharon also recognizes the creative aspects of decor, "One of the nicest compliments we've gotten was from a customer who said that our store inspires her creatively. I love the idea that our store can encourage people to have a new outlook on life."
We hope you enjoy our website, and we also invite you to visit our warm, whimsical, and creative shop on Main Street (see map).
Our goal is to create enjoyable shopping experiences that will inspire our customers. Please contact us if we can assist you in any way.
These are the ladies that help make the enchantment appear as you enter the world of American Harvest. Without them our "coach" would still be a "pumpkin."
Meet Jan . . . the protector, our guardian angel, the one who greets every customer with a smile. Jan is the one we can count on without fail, to be there when we need her. Jan has helped us at American Harvest since the day we opened, ten years ago. Her loyalty is unsurpassed. When preparing for our Christmas Open House, she can fluff hundreds of trees and each one will be perfect. Jan is also the one who will gently remind me that I have left the air conditioner or heater on all night -- yet again. Her warm personality is a magnet. Everyone loves to share their latest "dog" or "child" story with Jan.
Meet April . . . the fearless one who scales to the tippy top of ten foot ladders without batting an eye. I have also given her the title of "Queen of the Tulle." She likes to drape it everywhere, in every color, giving our store that fairytale atmosphere. April is also the one who accepts every decorating challenge and continually "thinks outside the box." She can turn a baby teething ring and rosary beads into the most unique necklace you've ever seen. Anything is fair game to be turned into a fashion statement. April dresses with so much style, a French runway model would take notice!
